Amber Geography

[Back to Amber]

The land around Amber City is dominated by the arable valley that extends down from the depths of Arden westwards towards the coast and the mouth of the River Garnath.

Mount Kolvir sticks out dramtically in the middle of the flood plain as if someone had dropped a mountain down onto the flat land surrounding it. Because of this, the river diverts it's flow around the bottom of Mount Kolvir and what is now the City of Amber.

The City of Amber and it's civilan harbour is on the northern bank with the Amber navy yards on the Southern bank.

Further south on the coast is the beach that has the Rebma stairs on – this is now part of the navy and marines military zone.

Eventually the beach bends round to a headland in the south which has the Cabra lighthouse on it.

There are no bridges in or near Amber. In fact the first usable bridge is way up the river in Garnath City. Thus boats and boatman are very important in the life and economy of Amber / Bayle / Garnath.

The Duchy of Bayle is closest to the coast and to Amber itself, on the northern side of the valley.

It is known for it's vines that produce some of the best of Amber's wines. It also has very good agricultural land as a whole with barley and wheat being the other main crops grown in the area.

The Duchy of Bayle is bounded by river on the south (with South Garnath on the other side), Amber and Kolvir on the west, more of Arden on the north, and North Garnath on the east.

Further up river from Amber and Bayle is the Duchy of Garnath which occupies both sides of the river, sitting alongside the Amber military zone on the south side.

On the north side, Bayle is between Amber and Garnath, and all trade goods into Amber either on barges along river, or on land via the road, travel through Bayle.

Size wise, Garnath is about 3 times the size of Bayle.

Economy wise, they are closer matched due to the land on the northern side of the river being slightly richer for growing in the area around Bayle.

Further inland, up the river, you hit the fringes of Arden on both sides of the river.
