Heritage FAQ

Who is my Amber/Chaos parent? That’s how this works, right?

Almost everyone in Spec Ops has an exceptional heritage of some sort. Some will have a parent from Amber or Chaos, but that is by no means universal. A priestess of Sian can determine the identity of your parents for a substantial fee. Trinley Dorje of Spec Ops can, with concentration, get a sense for your potential to initiate to various powers.

I know who my parents are. Should I go looking for them?

Once the identity of a parent is known, approaching that parent is a natural temptation. Consider asking around discreetly to discover if your parent is dangerous, insane, cursed, likely to draw you into
conflicts or situations that you would prefer to avoid, or some combination thereof. If you decide to approach such a parent anyway take reasonable precautions such as informing Spec Ops, informing friends and loved ones, prearranging a possible rescue, and/or writing a will.

What is a Cornelian?

Cornelius is the common ancestor of many, but by no means all, exceptional beings. Everyone who shares this ancestor is referred to as a Cornelian.

  1. You might want to mention that Cornelian relates back to everyone descending from ‘Cornelius the Great’ the creator of Thelbane and the first of the ‘Original Beings’.

  2. I recently met another individual who claimed descent from one of the ‘Original Beings’, Uranus the Titan. She was a Princess of the Abyss.

It is always a problem these ontological arguments for who or what was a first cause. I have no idea what the relationship between Uranus and Cornelius was, if any.

It does go back to something I mentioned in the post on Gods, sometimes very old stories have some truth to them. Roman, Greek and Norse myths all refer back to a race that existed prior to and somewhat contemporary with those gods, either giants or titans. This may be an example of that being bourne out.

    1. I believe that Cornelius was the creator but there were also a group of other people who appeared with him at the time, but that’s very much supposition based on talking to other much longer lived individuals.

  3. While this FAQ works alright for an introduction, does anyone think they could take a shot at a more advanced history of the REALLY ancient stuff? Who are the other ‘Original Beings?’ Where did they come from? What are the original powers?

I’m sorry to say I’m not qualified to even attempt to answer any of those questions with more than a sentence or two. Besides, that information probably isn’t safe for general consumption. If that’s the case, I’d love to get a private history lesson.

      1. I’d be up for a group discussion among Spec Ops agents and trusted allies to pool knowledge. I suspect that collectively we have a lot of answers, but that they aren’t always sbared for whatever reason. I would prefer a face to face discussion in a well warded location for all the obvious reasons.
