Ulrica Hendrake became a demoness through debt. She was a clandestine supporter of Armin Hendrake, and was killed while acting with him in the events at the wedding duel of Duke William Macey of Cabra and Hell-Vice-Marshall Countess Aðalbjörg Hendrake, during which an assassination was attempted upon both Lintra the Younger, Head of House Hendrake, and Lintra the Elder, at the time a demoness High Princess of Anihilation.
The plot failed, and Ulrica’s former demon lover Armin was banished back to the Shattered Realm, plus at the same time, Ulrica’s current lover, Hell-Colonel Lord Alaric Hendrake, was taken into custody under a charge of House treason. Also, Ulrica herself was killed by Aðalbjörg Hendrake, thus bringing about her current state.
It has been confirmed that Ulrica was able to gain access to a Pattern while still in possession of enough of her soul to allow her to walk it, thus making her one of the rare demons who could use Ley magic while on a Primal Pattern realm. Her Amber bloodline is through her mother, who was a grand-daughter of Prince Benedict.
